In 2002, the Qatari government created Mowasalat, a 85% government owned, government managed and operated company to ensure the seamless provision of "integrated ground transportation services" for the entire country. Previously, 3,000 orange private taxis roamed the streets of Qatar, but the government has removed them from the roads as a threat to the new Mowasalat taxis. This move caused a lot of controversy as it is now very difficult to find taxis in Doha.
Public buses currently serve more than 35 routes covering most areas of Doha at minimal fares, making public transport in Qatar a low-cost solution to rush hour and parking difficulties.
How is the Qatar Railways?
In August 2008, Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment entered into a joint venture with Deutsche Bahn, Germany, Qatar Railway Development Company, to design a railway network in Qatar. [5] On November 22, 2009, Deutsche Bahn and Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding to build high-speed rail lines and underground transport networks in Qatar and Bahrain. This agreement never took place. Qatar Railway Development Company (QRDC) was established in 2011 and soon after it was decided that Qatar Railways will be the sole owner and manager of the Qatar railway network and will be responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the entire network and rail systems.

In June 2013, Qatar Rail was awarded four design-build contracts worth approximately $8.2 billion for the first phase of the Doha Metro. The project will include four railway lines and an underground section in the center of the capital Doha and will connect the stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The contracts were for the Red Line North, Red Line South, Green Line project and another contract for the design and construction of major metro stations. More than 20,000 workers are expected to be employed at the peak of the projects, and construction is scheduled to begin later this year with completion in 2019. Construction of the subway was originally scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2010.< br />
The Doha Metro Red Line became the first line to officially open to the public on May 8, 2019. [10] This was followed by the launch of the Gold Line on November 21, 2019 [11] and the opening of the Green Line on December 10, 2019.

There are no classic paper tickets to travel by metro in Doha. Instead, there are transport cards and metro tokens that are sold at kiosks called Travel Cards and ticket vending machines. It is also convenient to replenish transport cards in vending machines. You can pay for your purchase in cash or by credit card.
1.- The standard card costs QAR 6 ($1.65). The price of 1 trip is QAR 2 ($0.55), the price of a pass with unlimited number of trips within 1 day is QAR 6 ($1.65). This is the best option for moving budget travelers around the city. As you can see, traveling in Doha is not expensive at all.
Standard travel cards can be obtained through any vending machine or authorized retailer such as Al Meera, Lulu, Jumbo and Carrefour.
2.- The Gold Club card will cost QAR 100 ($27.5). The price for 1 ride is QAR 10 ($2.75), the price for a pass with unlimited rides within 1 day is QAR 30 ($8.2). The advantage of this card is that with it you can travel in special “business class” metro cars, where there are fewer people than in ordinary cars.
Gold Club Travel Cards are only available at Gold Club offices located in all Metro stations.
There are turnstiles in front of the entrance to the subway platform, to which you need to attach a card to pass. The amount is debited from the card automatically. You can recharge the card at the machines and ticket offices of the metro stations, through the Doha Metro qr.com website in English or the metro mobile application.
When you change stations, you don't need to play. However, there is a 1.5 hour limit to travel on the Doha Metro, and you have to pay again after spending more than 1.5 hours inside the network. However, 1.5 hours is more than enough time to get to any possible location on the Doha Metro, and there should be no problem even if you change trains, especially during rush hours.
Getting from point A to point B in Doha will be convenient on the official website of Doha MetroDoha Metro qr.com
Where to recharge a card?
To top up a standard travel card, you can use a vending machine, mobile app or official website.
If you own a Gold Club card, you can reload it through all vending machines, Gold Club offices or through the Qatar Rail website and mobile app.
A reusable travel card can be reloaded over and over again as it remains active for five years. Therefore, these cards are a preferable option for those who use the metro on a regular basis rather than infrequent commuters.
Qatar rates to the car
The organizers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup have announced the introduction of an additional fee for those who plan to enter Qatar on the days of the tournament in their cars - it will be 5043 dirhams.
Between November 1 and December 23, motorists crossing the border through the Abu Samra checkpoint must obtain a special permit, which is granted only to those who confirm their residence in Qatar for at least 5 nights. There must be at least three passengers in the car.
The pass can be requested through the Hayya platform and if approved, you will need to purchase vehicle insurance and pay a non-refundable fee of AED 5,043 within 24 hours.
The rules do not apply to citizens and residents who have a Qatari ID card and drive vehicles with Qatari plates. Those unable to obtain a permit will need to leave their vehicles at the border, pay for parking, and take a bus to Doha Central Station (Al Messila). The reservation platform will be operational from November 1st.
As previously reported, Hayya Card holders traveling to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be allowed to bring up to three stowaway fans with them. The Hayya with Me (1+3) feature will only be available to adult Hayya card holders who have applied for the Hayya card using their ticket number.
At the same time, there are no age restrictions for fans without a ticket. It is only specified that they must have a valid passport and not be residents of Qatar, and they must also confirm the fact of their residence in Qatar during the tournament. Everyone who wants to take advantage of this offer will be required to pay a fee of QAR 500, guests under 12 years of age are exempt from the fee.
